Advanced Practitioner – Duty and Assessment Team | Barnsley Council | £37 per hour
Sheldon Phillips are working with Barnsley Council to recruit an experienced Advanced Practitioner into their Duty and Assessment Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practitioner looking to take on a leadership role within a fast-paced frontline service, supporting social workers while holding complex safeguarding cases and driving high-quality practice across the team.
Role Overview
As an Advanced Practitioner within the Duty and Assessment Team, you will work with children and families at the point of referral, completing robust assessments and ensuring children are safeguarded effectively through timely intervention and multi-agency working. You will also support less experienced staff, assist with oversight of practice, and contribute towards service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Completing Child and Family Assessments, S17 and S47 enquiries
- Managing complex safeguarding and child protection cases
- Supporting social workers with decision-making and case direction
- Undertaking court work, PLO and pre-proceedings work where required
- Chairing strategy discussions and supporting multi-agency planning
- Providing mentoring and practice support to team members
- Ensuring assessments and recording are completed to a high standard
- Working closely with partner agencies to reduce risk and improve outcomes

Requirements
- SWE Registration
- Social Work qualification
- Significant post-qualified Children’s Services experience
- Strong safeguarding, assessment and court work experience
- Previous experience supporting or mentoring practitioners
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced frontline service
