Bath and North East Somerset Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our Mental Health Team. This vital role involves delivering a high-quality, statutory AMHP service, supporting individuals and families by focusing on protection, prevention, and safeguarding under the Mental Health Act (1983) and associated legislation.
About the Role
As an Approved Mental Health Professional, you will play a key role in assessing and implementing statutory interventions, supporting individuals experiencing mental health crises, and enhancing quality of life outcomes. You will work collaboratively within a multi-agency network, providing expertise, guidance, and liaison across Health and Social Care, Emergency Services, Private Providers, and the Voluntary Sector.
Key Responsibilities

Fulfill duties as outlined in the Mental Health Act (1983) and associated legislation, ensuring statutory requirements are met

Assess individuals in mental health crisis to determine the appropriate level of intervention and support, with a focus on protection, prevention, and safeguarding

Collaborate closely with a wide range of agencies to facilitate comprehensive and coordinated care

Provide multi-agency liaison and build strong working relationships across Health and Social Care, Emergency Services, and community-based providers

Develop and maintain thorough records, providing clear and informed reports for case management

Ensure adherence to safeguarding standards and practices to protect vulnerable individuals and support positive outcomes
Requirements

Qualified Social Worker or Mental Health Professional with AMHP certification, registered with Social Work England or equivalent

Proven experience in mental health settings, ideally with a background in statutory AMHP duties

Comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and associated legislation

Strong skills in assessment, risk management, and decision-making in high-pressure situations

Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency framework, providing guidance and support to partner agencies

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
