Assessment Social Worker – Slough Children First
Location: Slough, Berkshire
Rate: £40.80 per hour

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assessment Social Worker to join Slough Children First's Assessment Service. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a well-structured, supportive team that operates with a strong commitment to delivering positive outcomes for children and families.
Key Responsibilities:

Undertake assessments (single assessments and S47 enquiries) in a timely manner

Ensure all assessments are robust, reflective, and child-centred

Work closely with families and partner agencies to develop effective safeguarding plans
-
Present cases at legal gateway and strategy discussions when needed

Manage caseload effectively, meeting statutory requirements and internal timescales
Safeguarding Approach:
Slough Children First has adopted the Family Safeguarding Model, which brings together multi-agency teams (including adult substance misuse, mental health, and domestic abuse specialists) to support whole families. The model focuses on motivational interviewing and strength-based practice, improving outcomes by working collaboratively with families rather than in opposition.
Ofsted:
Ofsted rated Slough Children First as ‘Requires Improvement to be Good’ (latest inspection), with clear strengths identified in leadership, the quality of assessments, and the ambition to deliver better outcomes for children. There is a strong improvement plan in place and a culture of learning and development across the service.
Candidate Requirements:

Social Work England registered
-
Minimum 3 years post-qualifying experience in children’s frontline services

Previous experience in assessment or MASH/Front Door preferred

Able to work under pressure and manage complex cases with confidence

Enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to have one obtained through Sheldon Phillips free of charge!
