Role Overview:

The primary focus of this role is to provide expert social work support and intervention for children and families experiencing risks related to domestic abuse. You will work as part of a dedicated Domestic Abuse Team, collaborating closely with colleagues from children’s social care, health, education, police, and community organizations, including Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs), to ensure the best practices are followed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver effective, coordinated responses to children, young people, and families where there are concerns about domestic abuse, including honor-based abuse, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation (FGM).
  • Apply your in-depth knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, early help assessments, and care for looked-after children in your daily practice.
  • Assess the risks and impacts of domestic abuse on children and families, and support safety interventions using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Conduct investigations, complete thorough assessments, develop action plans, and review progress within agreed and statutory timeframes.
  • Contribute to a daily duty offer of support, ensuring the first response to domestic abuse cases adheres to good practice standards.
  • Represent children’s social care in forums such as daily risk meetings, MARAC, and MAPPA, and participate in risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Support the wider workforce by sharing knowledge, contributing to training, and developing best practices.
  • Lead assessments on complex cases, including honor-based abuse and FGM, and work alongside locality colleagues to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Stay updated on local and national policies and practices, particularly those related to domestic abuse, to ensure adherence to the highest standards.

Requirements:

  • Social Work England (SWE) Registration is essential.
