Introduction:

Sheldon Phillips is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join the Child Protection Team in the London Borough of Barnet. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a well-structured and supportive team, managing complex cases while benefiting from flexible working arrangements.

About the Role:

As a Social Worker in Barnet’s Child Protection Team, you will be responsible for safeguarding children and ensuring their welfare is prioritised. Your key duties will include:

  • Managing a caseload of children subject to Child Protection Plans, Child in Need Plans, and care proceedings.

  • Undertaking Section 47 investigations and risk assessments to identify appropriate interventions.

  • Completing comprehensive assessments, including Child and Family Assessments, within statutory timeframes.

  • Preparing high-quality reports for Child Protection Conferences, court proceedings, and Looked After Child (LAC) reviews.

  • Engaging with children and families to provide direct support and ensure their voices are heard in decision-making.

  • Developing and implementing safety plans and intervention strategies in partnership with multi-agency professionals.

  • Attending strategy meetings, legal planning meetings, and case conferences as required.

  • Working collaboratively with schools, health services, and other agencies to ensure a holistic approach to child protection.

  • Maintaining accurate case records in line with statutory requirements and local authority policies.

  • Participating in reflective supervision and team meetings to ensure best practices are upheld.

This role requires two days a week in the office, providing a balance of flexibility and team collaboration.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A recognised social work qualification (Degree/Diploma in Social Work).

  • Current Social Work England registration.

  • At least two years of post-qualifying experience in frontline child protection social work.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing competing priorities.

  • Experience working within a multi-agency framework.

  • A commitment to achieving the best outcomes for children and families.
