Contract: Hybrid – 3 days in the office

Are you an experienced Social Worker looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of Looked After Children? The London Borough of Islington is seeking a passionate and skilled Locum Social Worker to join their Looked After Children’s Team.

About the Team

The Looked After Children’s Team in Islington is dedicated to supporting children and young people in care. The team works to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive, focusing on stability, wellbeing, and achieving positive outcomes. You’ll be part of a collaborative, supportive team committed to high standards and improving the lives of children in care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of Looked After Children, ensuring all statutory requirements are met.
  • Develop and implement care plans that reflect the individual needs and aspirations of children and young people.
  • Prepare and present high-quality court reports, care plans, and assessments to inform decision-making processes.
  • Attend and contribute to court proceedings, including providing evidence as required.
  • Work closely with foster carers, residential homes, and partner agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • Ensure permanence planning is timely and robust, focusing on securing long-term stability for children.
  • Build trusting relationships with children, young people, and their families to support their wellbeing and development.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to collaborative planning and review processes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with statutory and local authority guidelines.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Social Worker in the UK, particularly within Looked After Children teams.
  • Strong understanding of care planning, permanency processes, and court proceedings.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills to prepare and present detailed reports.
  • Registration with Social Work England (SWE).
  • Commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people in care.
