Children’s Social Worker – Children in Care Team
Locum Role | Community-Based | Travel Required
Derbyshire County Council is looking for an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join their Children in Care Team on a locum basis. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting looked-after children, forming meaningful relationships, and delivering high-quality interventions in both planned and crisis situations.
You will be expected to work directly with children in their placements, so flexibility to travel and a strong commitment to building trust with young people is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support children in care across Derbyshire, including travelling to placement settings
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with young people, including those with attachment difficulties
- Act as a strong advocate for children, ensuring their voices are central to decision making
- Follow Derbyshire’s processes and procedures in both planned visits and crisis response
- Manage your own caseload and maintain up-to-date, accurate case records
- Complete assessments and paperwork within defined timescales
- Work as part of a supportive and child-focused team that holds a strong ethos of not giving up on children
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
- Previous experience working with children in care
- Strong understanding of children in care processes, needs, and challenges
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time independently
- Confident IT user with the ability to record and report to high standards
- Commitment to Derbyshire’s values of child-centred practice and persistence in care
