Children’s Social Worker – Permanence Project
Non-Case Holding Post | Special Guardianship & Care Order Work
Role Overview:
Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Social Worker to join a newly developed Permanence Project on a locum basis. This is a non–case holding role, offering the chance to focus on specialist work that supports children and families at critical points in their journey.
As part of this innovative service, you will be responsible for completing Special Guardianship Assessments, Placement Order Revocations, and the discharge of Care Orders, ensuring children are supported to achieve permanence and stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete high-quality Special Guardianship Assessments (SGOs)
- Undertake Placement Order Revocation work and applications for discharge of Care Orders
- Produce clear, evidence-based reports to support decision making in court and panel settings
- Ensure assessments are child-focused, robust, and compliant with statutory guidance
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, carers, and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes
- Contribute to the development of this new project by sharing expertise and best practice
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
- Strong assessment and report-writing skills
- Proven track record within children’s social care, ideally with court-related experience
- Ability to work to timescales and manage competing demands effectively
- Excellent communication and partnership working skills
- Enthusiasm for working on a specialist, non-case holding project
