Wokingham Borough Council is looking for a skilled and dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join our Assessment Team. This role is ideal for a social worker with strong assessment skills and a commitment to safeguarding children and families. You’ll work in a supportive team environment, conducting initial assessments and making critical decisions to ensure children’s safety and well-being.

About the Role

As a Qualified Social Worker in our Assessment Team, you will be on the front line, conducting timely and thorough assessments to identify risks and needs for children and families. This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of child protection, and the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments of children and families to evaluate risks, needs, and support requirements

  • Manage a diverse caseload and work in line with statutory guidelines to ensure child safety

  • Work closely with families and other professionals to develop comprehensive care and support plans

  • Collaborate with other social work teams, schools, healthcare providers, and partner agencies

  • Participate in duty work on a rotational basis, responding to urgent cases as needed

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration

  • Proven experience in child protection, assessment, and case management

  • Strong knowledge of child safeguarding practices, legislation, and best practices

  • Excellent assessment, communication, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to thrive in a busy environment and effectively manage complex cases
