Role: Social Worker – Referral and Assessment Team
Location: Hammersmith & Fulham
Pay: £39.04 per hour
Contract: Locum | 36 hours per week
Working Pattern: Hybrid

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Referral and Assessment Team on a locum basis. This is a vital front-door role where you’ll be responsible for assessing new referrals, identifying safeguarding concerns, and ensuring timely interventions for children and families in need.

Role Highlights:

  • £39.04 per hour (umbrella)

  • 36 hours per week

  • Hybrid working – 2–3 days in the office

  • Locum contract with potential for extension

  • Work at the frontline of child protection, triaging new referrals and supporting early decision-making

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Child and Family Assessments and Section 47 enquiries

  • Make clear, evidence-based decisions on thresholds for intervention

  • Work in partnership with families and professionals to assess risk and develop support plans

  • Identify when cases require step-up to Child Protection or step-down to Early Help

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to strategy meetings and case conferences

Requirements:

  • Social Work England registration

  • Qualified Social Worker with experience in a frontline assessment or safeguarding team

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children

  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills
