Senior Lead Child Protection Practitioner – Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council

Location: Walsall
Pay/Salary: up to £41.42 per hour
Office Working: 3 days per week
Contract: Locum

We are currently working with Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council to find an experienced Social Worker to lead and oversee all child protection activity, acting as the key decision-maker for child protection enquiries and conferences. They will provide expert guidance, supervision and quality assurance across the service, supporting practitioners to deliver high-quality safeguarding interventions and driving continuous improvement in child protection practice. 

Duties

• Provide expert advice to social workers on safeguarding and significant harm concerns.
• Chair strategy meetings and child protection conferences, ensuring appropriate thresholds and robust decision-making.
• Oversee and quality assure child protection enquiries.
• Support, mentor and supervise practitioners, developing effective child protection practice.
• Lead on complex safeguarding cases and provide specialist expertise across the service.
• Deliver training, coaching and practice development initiatives.
• Monitor performance, conduct audits, and ensure statutory compliance.
• Support service development, partnership working and continuous improvement across children's services.
• Deputise for senior management and contribute to strategic safeguarding initiatives.

What you need

• Social Work Qualification
• Social Work England registration
• Enhanced DBS (provided by us)
