Senior Practitioner – Children with Disabilities

Herefordshire Council | Locum | £33.30 per hour | Hybrid Working

Herefordshire Council is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join their Children with Disabilities Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an improving local authority, contributing to a restorative and relationship-based model of practice that delivers positive outcomes for children and families.

Working across the child’s journey, you will support the team in delivering high-quality assessments, safeguarding interventions, and care planning, while also providing supervisory support to Social Workers.

In this role, you will:

  • Support and supervise Social Workers within the Children with Disabilities team
  • Manage a complex caseload including assessment, Child Protection, and court work
  • Undertake and oversee short break assessments and care planning
  • Promote a relationship-based and restorative approach to practice
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to safeguard children
  • Contribute to service improvement and practice development
  • Ensure high-quality reports, assessments, and case recordings

What You’ll Need:

  • Social Work England Registration
  • Social Work Qualification (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in statutory children’s social care
  • Strong experience within Children with Disabilities services
  • Experience supporting or supervising other social workers
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills

What You Can Expect:

  • Competitive rate of £33.30 per hour
  • 45p per mile business mileage
  • Up to £150 per week accommodation allowance
  • Full-time (37 hours per week)
  • Initial 3-month contract with potential extension
  • Opportunity to contribute to a service on an improvement journey
