Are you an experienced and passionate Social Worker looking to take the next step in your career? We are currently recruiting for a Senior Practitioner to join the Family Support & Safeguarding Service at Lewisham Council. This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking local authority committed to delivering outstanding services for children and families while supporting staff development and wellbeing.
This role is ideal for an experienced practitioner who thrives in fast-paced safeguarding environments and is confident managing complex Child Protection, Court, and Child in Need work. You will play a key role in supporting team performance, mentoring social workers, and ensuring positive outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing a complex caseload within Family Support & Safeguarding
- Completing Child Protection, Child in Need, and Court work assessments
- Undertaking statutory visits and ensuring plans are progressed effectively
- Chairing professional meetings and contributing to strategy discussions
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced social workers and ASYE staff
- Producing high-quality assessments, reports, and care planning documentation
- Working in partnership with multi-agency professionals to safeguard children
- Ensuring all practice is compliant with current legislation and safeguarding procedures
Candidate Requirements
- Social Work England registration
- Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification
- Significant post-qualified experience within Children’s Services
- Strong safeguarding, court work, and assessment experience
- Previous Senior Practitioner or advanced practitioner experience preferred
- Ability to work confidently within fast-paced statutory settings
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills
