Medway’s Children’s Services is dedicated to ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive outcomes for children and families in our community. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Practitioner to join our Assessment Team. In this critical role, you will lead the assessment process for children and families in need, providing high-quality social work practice and contributing to the continuous improvement of our service.

Role Overview
As a Senior Practitioner in the Assessment Team, you will manage a complex caseload, conducting comprehensive assessments and ensuring that interventions are timely and effective. You will also provide support and mentorship to less experienced team members, promoting best practices in assessment and safeguarding. This position is ideal for a social worker who is ready to step into a leadership role while continuing to work directly with families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families to identify needs, risks, and strengths, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Develop and implement effective intervention plans, working collaboratively with families, children, and multi-agency professionals.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior social workers and practitioners, helping them develop their assessment skills and confidence.
  • Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, strategy discussions, and case conferences to ensure holistic support for children and families.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of assessments, plans, and case notes in line with Medway’s policies and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of reflective practice within the team, sharing knowledge and encouraging ongoing professional development.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in legislation, policy, and best practice to inform assessment processes and interventions.

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and Social Work England registration.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in children’s social care, particularly in assessment and safeguarding.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures relating to child protection and family welfare.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor and support colleagues in their professional development.
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
