Senior Social Worker

Waltham Forest | Locum | £39.04 per hour | ASAP Start | Hybrid Working

Waltham Forest Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Assessment Team. This is a frontline role focused on completing timely assessments, managing safeguarding concerns, and ensuring children and families receive the right support at the earliest opportunity.

You will work within a fast-paced service, undertaking assessments and progressing plans that safeguard children and promote positive outcomes through effective multi-agency working and relationship-based practice.

ASAP Start Available

In this role, you will:

  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments
  • Complete Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries and investigations
  • Manage Child in Need and Child Protection cases during the assessment stage
  • Assess risk and develop outcome-focused plans for children and families
  • Undertake direct work with children to understand their lived experiences and wishes
  • Lead and participate in strategy discussions, multi-agency meetings, and safeguarding processes
  • Progress cases through pre-proceedings and court processes where required
  • Support and mentor less experienced Social Workers within the team
  • Prepare high-quality assessments, reports, and court documentation
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with statutory requirements

What You’ll Need:

  • Social Work England Registration
  • Social Work Qualification
  • At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s social care
  • Strong experience within Assessment, Referral & Assessment, or Duty services
  • Child in Need and Child Protection experience
  • Court work and pre-proceedings experience
  • Ability to manage complex safeguarding cases confidently
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience supporting or mentoring colleagues within a team environment
