Senior Social Worker

Barnet | Locum | £38.50 per hour | Long-Term Contract | Hybrid Working

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join one of their Children's Services teams on a long-term locum contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-supported service where you can build strong relationships with children and families while benefiting from long-term stability.

You will manage a complex caseload, delivering high-quality statutory social work and safeguarding interventions to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.

Long-Term Opportunity Available

In this role, you will:

  • Manage a complex caseload of children and families
  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments where required
  • Manage Child in Need and Child Protection cases
  • Complete Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries and investigations
  • Undertake direct work with children and families to assess risk and promote positive change
  • Lead and participate in multi-agency meetings, conferences, and core groups
  • Progress cases through pre-proceedings and court proceedings where required
  • Prepare high-quality assessments, reports, and court documentation
  • Support and mentor less experienced Social Workers within the team
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with statutory requirements

What You’ll Need:

  • Social Work England Registration
  • Social Work Qualification
  • At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children's social care
  • Strong safeguarding experience, including Child in Need and Child Protection work
  • Court work and pre-proceedings experience
  • Ability to manage complex and high-risk cases confidently
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience supporting and mentoring colleagues within a team environment
