Senior Social Worker – Children in Need – Wandsworth Council

Wandsworth Council is looking for an experienced senior social worker to join their Children in Need Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner to play a key role in safeguarding children, working with families to create lasting positive change, and mentoring junior colleagues within a forward-thinking borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold and manage a caseload of Children in Need and Child Protection cases
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments and direct work with children and families
  • Develop and implement tailored intervention and support plans
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes, case conferences, and statutory reviews
  • Prepare high-quality reports for courts, panels, and professional meetings
  • Support, mentor, and guide less experienced colleagues within the team
  • Promote positive outcomes for children by working closely with partner agencies

Candidate Requirements

  • Social Work England registration
  • Substantial post-qualified experience in Children in Need/Child Protection services
  • Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and relevant safeguarding legislation
  • Excellent communication and assessment skills
  • Ability to manage complex cases with confidence and independence
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
