Senior Social Worker – Assessment & Intervention Service – London

Location: London Borough of Southwark
Pay/Salary: £39.04 per hour (Umbrella)

We are currently working with the London Borough of Southwark to find an experienced Senior Social Worker for their Assessment & Intervention Service. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing frontline team, managing complex assessment work while supporting less experienced practitioners and driving excellent social work practice.

You'll work within a team of five Social Workers and a Team Manager, completing Child and Family Assessments, Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries, initial court work, and Looked After Children processes. The team operates a duty rota every six weeks, providing a varied and rewarding caseload within a supportive environment.

Duties

  • Managing a complex caseload of Child and Family Assessments, Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries.
  • Completing initial court work and progressing cases through Public Law Outline where required.
  • Undertaking Looked After Children (LAC) processes and statutory interventions.
  • Building strong, relationship-based practice with children, families, and partner agencies.
  • Completing high-quality assessments, reports, and care planning to promote positive outcomes.
  • Representing the Local Authority at Child Protection Conferences and court proceedings where necessary.
  • Supporting and mentoring newly qualified and less experienced Social Workers, including Social Work students.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to safeguard children and reduce risk.
  • Promoting evidence-based, systemically informed practice in line with Southwark's practice framework.

What you need

  • Social Work Qualification.
  • Social Work England registration.
  • Enhanced DBS (provided by us).
  • Significant frontline experience within an Assessment, Safeguarding, or Assessment & Intervention Team.
  • Strong experience completing Section 17 and Section 47 assessments, court work, and Child Protection processes.
  • Ability to manage complex cases while supporting the development of less experienced practitioners.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
