About the Role
London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Social Worker to join their Family Support and Safeguarding Team. This position is offering an opportunity for an experienced social worker to make a real impact within a supportive and collaborative environment.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will work with families who are facing complex challenges, providing critical support to safeguard children and promote their welfare. You will take the lead on managing complex cases, including child protection, and provide supervision and guidance to junior social workers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, child-centered interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of complex child protection and family support cases, ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
- Undertake assessments and develop care plans for children and families, ensuring the best outcomes for those involved.
- Work closely with children, families, and multi-agency partners to provide a holistic approach to support and intervention.
- Provide supervision and guidance to junior social workers, ensuring their professional development and supporting their casework.
- Lead on child protection conferences, core group meetings, and other multi-disciplinary meetings, contributing to decision-making processes.
- Maintain high standards of record-keeping and report writing in line with legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures, statutory requirements, and local authority policies.
- Participate in duty rotas and be flexible to meet the needs of children and families.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in child protection and safeguarding, with a sound understanding of children’s legislation and statutory duties.
- Strong assessment and decision-making skills to manage complex cases and work effectively with children and families.
- Experience in supervising and supporting junior social workers, providing guidance and mentoring.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to collaborative working across agencies.
- A passionate commitment to safeguarding children and improving outcomes for families.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to manage a challenging and varied caseload, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for children.
