Senior Social Worker – Long-Term Child Protection – Wokingham, Berkshire

Sheldon Phillips is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Social Worker to join Wokingham Council’s Children’s Services Long-Term Child Protection Team on a locum basis. With excellent transport links from London and across Berkshire, this is a great opportunity for experienced practitioners looking for a flexible hybrid role with manageable caseloads.

The Long-Term Child Protection Team supports children and families with ongoing safeguarding needs. The team works closely with families to develop and review child protection and child in need plans, ensuring children are safeguarded and supported to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 20 children, focusing on long-term protection and planning.

  • Undertake statutory visits, direct work with children, and participate in child protection conferences and reviews.

  • Prepare court reports and provide evidence in legal proceedings when required.

  • Support less experienced staff and contribute to a reflective team culture.

  • Build effective working relationships with partner agencies to deliver the best outcomes for children and families.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

  • Experience in long-term child protection, safeguarding, and statutory social work.

  • Strong assessment, report-writing, and risk analysis skills.

  • A proactive, solution-focused approach and ability to work collaboratively.

  • Enhanced DBS check and full right to work in the UK.
