An exceptional role awaits an experienced Service Manager within the Cared for Children service in Tameside. This locum position offers a competitive rate of £450 per day, providing a unique chance to make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people.

The successful applicant will assume operational oversight of the service, which encompasses five social work teams and a Special Guardianship team. This role involves direct line management of six Team Managers and approximately 40 indirect reports, reporting directly to the Head of Service for Cared for Children.

Key responsibilities include progressing care planning and permanency for children and young people in care, ensuring that risks are appropriately identified and responded to across the service. The teams work with children and young people subject to care orders or in care under section 20, including those placed with parents, in foster placements, with connected carers, and in residential care. The service supports young people up to the age of 18, preparing them for transitioning to the leaving care service.

Ideal candidates will have significant experience at a service manager level, strong leadership skills, and an excellent knowledge base of Cared for Children. The ability to create an environment where practice can flourish is essential. Commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for Cared for Children, ensuring alignment with the corporate parenting strategy and action plan, is paramount.

Tameside is on an improvement journey, and the successful candidate will ideally have experience in improving practice to achieve good outcomes for children, working in an environment of high challenge alongside high support. A minimum of three days per week in the office is expected.

Social Work England (SWE) registration is required.
