Social Work Team Manager – Assessment Team – London

Pay/Salary: £45.30 per hour (Umbrella)

We are currently working with the London Borough of Bexley to find an experienced Social Work Team Manager for their Assessment Team in Children's Services. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a busy frontline team, providing management oversight, reflective supervision, and high-quality decision-making across a fast-paced statutory service.

You'll be responsible for leading a team of social workers managing complex assessments, safeguarding concerns, Child in Need and Child Protection work, ensuring children and families receive timely interventions and the right support at the earliest opportunity. Working alongside senior managers, you'll help drive service improvements while supporting the ongoing development of your team.

Duties

  • Driving excellent social work practice and making a positive difference to children, young people and their families.
  • Responsible for the operational management, supervision and support of a team of Social Workers within the Assessment Team.
  • Providing management oversight on complex Child and Family Assessments, safeguarding concerns and statutory interventions.
  • Making decisions around legal planning meetings and supporting practitioners through Public Law Outline and care proceedings where required.
  • Working closely with MASH, Safeguarding and Family Support colleagues to ensure effective case progression and robust threshold decision-making.
  • Delivering reflective supervision while supporting staff performance, wellbeing and professional development.
  • Contributing to service improvement, quality assurance and the ongoing development of Children's Services.

What you need

  • Social Work Qualification.
  • Social Work England registration.
  • Enhanced DBS (provided by us).
  • Previous Team Manager experience within an Assessment or similar frontline Children's Services team.
  • Strong knowledge of Child Protection, Child in Need, legal planning and court work.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing social work teams.
