Rate: Up to £42 per hour

Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days in-office)
Sheldon Phillips is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Contact and Assessment Service at West Berkshire Council on a locum basis. This role offers the opportunity to work at the frontline of children’s services, undertaking robust assessments and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and families in need of support.
The Contact and Assessment Service is a fast-paced team dealing with referrals, initial assessments, and Section 47 enquiries. This position is ideal for a social worker who thrives on making timely, evidence-informed decisions to safeguard vulnerable children.
Key Responsibilities:

Carry out high-quality initial assessments, strategy discussions, and Section 47 enquiries.

Hold and manage a fast-moving caseload of referrals and short-term interventions.

Develop SMART plans and ensure timely handovers to the long-term teams where required.

Liaise effectively with children, families, and multi-agency partners to ensure holistic support.

Prepare clear, concise, and timely reports for Child Protection Conferences and other formal meetings.
Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

Substantial experience in assessment, duty, or safeguarding teams.

Strong decision-making and risk analysis skills in high-pressure environments.

Enhanced DBS check and full right to work in the UK.
