Sheldon Phillips are partnering with Leicester City Council to recruit experienced Social Workers for their Child in Need Team, supporting one of the authority’s most vital and fast-paced service areas.
With over half of the permanent workforce being newly qualified, the team is seeking experienced practitioners with a strong background in court work and child protection to provide the expertise and stability needed to safeguard children and support families effectively.
The Role
As a Social Worker in the Child in Need Team, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of approximately 20 children, working across child in need, child protection, and care proceedings. This is a hybrid role with an expectation for teams to attend the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, though specific working patterns will be agreed with your Team Manager.
Key responsibilities include:

Undertaking assessments and developing robust child protection and child in need plans

Managing complex cases, including court proceedings and pre-proceedings work

Working closely with families to create sustainable change and improve outcomes

Writing clear, evidence-based reports and presenting in court where required

Engaging in reflective supervision and contributing to a supportive team culture
About You
You will be a qualified and registered Social Worker with:

Significant post-qualified experience in child protection and court work

Excellent assessment, analysis, and report-writing skills

The ability to manage a busy and complex caseload effectively

A commitment to relationship-based practice and achieving positive outcomes for children

Willingness to travel for visits, with the majority of cases located in Leicester City
