Are you an experienced Social Worker looking for your next opportunity within a supportive and child-focused service? We are currently recruiting for a Social Worker to join a Long Term Child Protection Team, working with children and families where sustained intervention is required to reduce risk, improve outcomes, and achieve long-term stability.
This role offers the opportunity to undertake meaningful direct work with children and families while managing complex safeguarding cases through effective assessment, planning, and intervention. The team works with children subject to Child Protection Plans, Child in Need Plans, Public Law Outline processes, and permanence planning, ensuring that children remain at the centre of all decision-making.
About the Service
The Long Term Child Protection Team provides ongoing support and intervention for children and families where safeguarding concerns require longer-term involvement. Practitioners work closely with families to understand risk, build on strengths, and support positive change whilst ensuring that children are protected and their welfare remains paramount.
The service promotes high-quality practice through manageable workloads, strong management oversight, regular supervision, and collaborative multi-agency working. Social Workers are encouraged to develop strong relationships with children and families, enabling effective intervention and better outcomes.
Practice Model
The team operates within a relationship-based and strengths-focused practice model, recognising that meaningful change is most effectively achieved through positive and purposeful engagement with children and families.

- Building trusting and professional relationships with children and their families
- Understanding each child’s lived experience and ensuring their voice informs planning and decision-making
- Working collaboratively with families to identify strengths, risks, and support networks
- Delivering evidence-informed interventions that promote safety and stability
- Using reflective practice and professional curiosity to inform assessments and decision-making
- Supporting families to achieve sustainable change whilst maintaining a clear focus on safeguarding responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of children subject to Child Protection Plans and Child in Need Plans
- Undertaking statutory visits and maintaining purposeful direct work with children and families
- Completing comprehensive assessments, risk assessments, and care planning activities
- Monitoring and reviewing child protection plans to ensure risks are effectively managed
- Progressing cases through Public Law Outline and legal planning processes where required
- Preparing reports for conferences, court proceedings, and other statutory meetings
- Participating in strategy discussions, core groups, reviews, and multi-agency meetings
- Working in partnership with schools, health professionals, police, legal representatives, and partner agencies
- Maintaining accurate and timely case recordings in accordance with statutory requirements and local procedures
- Contributing to permanence planning and ensuring children achieve safe and stable outcomes without unnecessary delay
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification
- Registered with Social Work England
- Experience within Child Protection, Child in Need, or long-term safeguarding services
- Strong knowledge of relevant childcare legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding procedures
- Ability to undertake complex assessments and manage risk effectively
- Excellent report writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and families
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-agency environment
