Social Worker | Duty and Assessment Team | Bury Council | £35 per Hour

Sheldon Phillips are working in partnership with Bury Council to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Duty and Assessment Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner looking for flexibility, offering a 30-hour working week across four days while working within a fast-paced frontline service that plays a vital role in safeguarding children and supporting families at the earliest stage of intervention.

Role Overview

As a Social Worker within the Duty and Assessment Team, you will be responsible for undertaking statutory assessments, responding to safeguarding concerns, and making informed decisions regarding the needs and safety of children and young people. Working closely with partner agencies, you will ensure timely and effective interventions that promote positive outcomes for children and their families.

This position offers a reduced working week of 30 hours across four days, with the non-working day to be taken midweek (not Monday or Friday).

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory requirements.
  • Respond to referrals and safeguarding concerns regarding children and young people.
  • Complete Section 47 enquiries and contribute to strategy discussions and meetings.
  • Assess risk and identify appropriate interventions to safeguard children.
  • Develop and implement Child in Need and Child Protection plans.
  • Undertake direct work with children and families to assess needs and promote positive change.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies including education, health, police, and other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings, assessments, and reports.
  • Attend legal planning meetings, case conferences, and other statutory meetings as required.
  • Manage a caseload effectively within a busy Duty and Assessment environment.

Requirements

  • Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience within a Duty, Assessment, Referral and Assessment, or Safeguarding Team.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policy, and practice.
  • Experience undertaking Child and Family Assessments and Section 47 enquiries.
  • Ability to assess risk and make sound professional decisions.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced statutory setting.
