Are you an experienced Social Worker looking for your next locum opportunity within a dedicated Children in Care Service? Hampshire County Council is seeking a passionate and committed practitioner to join its Basingstoke team, supporting children and young people in care to achieve stability, permanence, and positive long-term outcomes.

The Children in Care Service works with children and young people who are subject to Care Orders, Section 20 arrangements, and permanence planning. Social workers are empowered to build meaningful relationships with children, ensuring their voices remain central to all planning and decision-making.
Working within the Basingstoke team, you will collaborate closely with foster carers, residential providers, education professionals, health services, and other partner agencies to ensure children receive the support they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Children in Care and Care Leavers where appropriate.
- Undertake statutory visits and maintain strong relationships with children and young people.
- Develop and review care plans that promote stability, permanence, and positive outcomes.
- Complete assessments and reports to support care planning and permanency decisions.
- Work closely with foster carers, residential settings, and family networks.
- Participate in Looked After Child Reviews and multi-agency meetings.
- Support children to access education, health services, and emotional wellbeing support.
- Prepare high-quality court reports and documentation where required.
- Promote the voice of the child in all assessments and planning processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with statutory requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification.
- Registered with the Social Work England.
- Experience working within Children in Care, Looked After Children, Permanence, or Safeguarding Services.
- Strong understanding of care planning, permanence, and statutory responsibilities.
- Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships with children, families, carers, and professionals.
- Commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
