Are you a passionate and experienced Social Worker looking for your next locum opportunity? Swindon Borough Council is seeking a committed Social Worker to join its Looked After Children Service. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a child-focused authority that is dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people in care.
As a Social Worker within the Looked After Children Team, you will be responsible for supporting children and young people throughout their care journey, ensuring they receive the support, stability, and opportunities needed to reach their full potential. You will work closely with carers, families, education providers, and partner agencies to create positive and lasting change.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Looked After Children and young people.
- Undertake statutory visits and maintain strong, relationship-based practice.
- Complete assessments, care plans, pathway plans, and statutory reviews.
- Promote permanence planning, including reunification, long-term fostering, special guardianship, and adoption where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with foster carers, residential providers, schools, health professionals, and other partner agencies.
- Prepare high-quality reports for reviews, meetings, and court proceedings.
- Ensure children and young people's voices are central to all planning and decision-making.
- Support young people in preparation for independence and adulthood.
- Identify and manage risk while ensuring safeguarding responsibilities are met.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with statutory requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification.
- Registered with Social Work England.
- Previous experience within a Looked After Children, Children in Care, Permanence, or Safeguarding Team.
- Strong understanding of childcare legislation, statutory guidance, and care planning processes.
- Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively and work independently.
- Strong partnership-working and relationship-building skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
