West Sussex County Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Looked After Children Service on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work with children and young people in care and help secure positive long-term outcomes through effective planning and intervention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Holding and managing a caseload of looked after children and young people.
  • Undertaking statutory visits and ensuring care plans remain current and effective.
  • Working closely with foster carers, residential placements, schools, and health professionals.
  • Progressing permanence planning and supporting children to achieve stability.
  • Completing assessments, reports, and court documentation where required.
  • Attending statutory reviews and contributing to multi-agency planning meetings.
  • Supporting young people through transition planning and preparation for independence.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current SWE registration.
  • Previous experience within a Looked After Children Team.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and statutory guidance relating to children in care.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to team objectives.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills.
