Social Worker – Child in Need & Child Protection Team
Sutton | Locum | £37.52 per hour | Hybrid Working
Sutton Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Child in Need and Child Protection Service. This is a frontline safeguarding role focused on supporting vulnerable children and families, managing risk, and delivering effective interventions that lead to positive outcomes.
You will work with children subject to Child in Need and Child Protection Plans, providing high-quality assessments, care planning, and direct support to children and families. The role also requires case management oversight and collaborative working with partner agencies to ensure children remain safe and receive the support they need.
Please note that there may be a requirement to travel outside of the borough to support a young person or vulnerable adult when required.
In this role, you will:
- Manage a caseload of Child in Need and Child Protection cases
- Provide case management oversight of children and families subject to CIN and CP plans
- Undertake Section 17 and Section 47 assessments and investigations
- Develop, implement, and review outcome-focused care and safeguarding plans
- Undertake direct work with children and families to assess risk and promote positive change
- Lead and participate in multi-agency meetings, conferences, and core groups
- Progress cases through pre-proceedings and court proceedings where required
- Work collaboratively with partner agencies to safeguard children and improve outcomes
- Prepare high-quality assessments, reports, and statutory documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with statutory requirements
What You’ll Need:
- Social Work England Registration
- Social Work Qualification
- At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s social care
- Strong experience within Child in Need and Child Protection services
- Experience undertaking Section 17 and Section 47 investigations
- Court work and pre-proceedings experience
- Ability to manage complex safeguarding cases confidently
- Strong assessment, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to travel when required to support children, young people, and vulnerable adults
