Team: Duty and Assessment
Contract: Locum – 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: Up to £38 per hour
Location: Wigan Council
Sheldon Phillips are working with Wigan Council to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Duty and Assessment service. The Duty service is made up of 5 main duty teams plus a Duty Academy. Social Workers are on Duty one week in five, supported by a Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner and Senior Social Worker. This is a fast-paced and varied role where you will use your assessment and intervention skills to safeguard children and families at the earliest stage of support.

Work on a 5-week duty cycle, covering duty just 1 week in every 5.

A variety of cases with clear transfer points for long-term teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Carry out assessments and interventions at the point of referral.

Manage a caseload with varying levels of complexity within statutory frameworks.

Transfer cases at key milestones (ICPC, first CLA review, PLO meeting, CIN meeting).

Work directly with children and families to develop sustainable plans and solutions.

Apply strong analytical skills to assess risk and make evidence-based decisions.

Collaborate with partner agencies to promote positive outcomes.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records.
Requirements:
-
SWE Registration.
-
Social Work qualification.
-
Post-qualified experience in Duty, Assessment, or Locality services.

Knowledge of safeguarding, legislation, and statutory frameworks.

Strong assessment, risk analysis and decision-making skills.
-
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of practice.
