Working Pattern: Hybrid – office-based duty week, home working for write-up week

Sheldon Phillips are partnering with Birmingham Children’s Trust to recruit a committed Social Worker for their Duty and Assessment Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest and most diverse Trusts, known for its strong practice model, supportive management, and clear progression routes.

The Duty and Assessment Service is the Trust’s front door for safeguarding referrals and early assessments. You’ll work on a rota basis, undertaking a week on duty followed by a week to complete your assessments. The team is well-structured with Advanced Practitioners, Team Managers, and Business Support to ensure manageable caseloads and a strong collaborative culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments following new referrals to the Trust

  • Identify and assess risk, implementing effective safeguarding plans

  • Work with multi-agency partners to deliver coordinated support

  • Present findings in strategy discussions and child protection conferences

  • Prepare high-quality written reports, including for court when required

  • Manage cases efficiently to ensure timely interventions and outcomes


Requirements:

  • Social Work England registration

  • Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW)

  • Post-qualified experience in Duty, Assessment or Front Door teams

  • Strong safeguarding, analytical, and report-writing skills

  • Experience of multi-agency working and risk assessment

  • A proactive, reflective, and child-focused approach
