Social Worker | Blackpool Council | £39 per hour
Blackpool Council is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join its Assessment Team on a locum basis. This is a strong opportunity for a practitioner who enjoys fast-paced frontline work, is confident in completing robust assessments, and can build effective relationships with children and families from the outset.
This role would suit a Social Worker with recent Assessment, Duty and Assessment, or Safeguarding experience within statutory children’s services.
Role Overview
As a Social Worker in the Assessment Team, you will be responsible for undertaking timely and thorough assessments for children and families, managing risk, and ensuring that children receive the right support at the right time. You will work across Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries, complete single assessments, and contribute to clear planning and decision-making in line with statutory guidance.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake Child and Family Assessments within statutory timescales
- Manage a caseload involving Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries
- Identify and assess risk, ensuring children are safeguarded effectively
- Work directly with children and families to gather wishes, feelings and lived experience
- Prepare high-quality assessments, plans and case recordings
- Attend strategy discussions, child protection meetings and other multi-agency forums
- Work closely with partner agencies to support safe and timely outcomes for children

Requirements
- Social Work England registration
- Qualified Social Worker with statutory children’s services experience
- Recent experience within Assessment, Duty and Assessment, or Safeguarding teams
- Strong knowledge of child protection, court thresholds and statutory processes
- Confident assessment and report-writing skills
- Ability to manage a fast-paced caseload effectively
