Social Worker – Child Protection Court Team

About the Role
The London Borough of Brent is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Child Protection Court Team on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a service dedicated to safeguarding children and supporting families through the court process.
You’ll manage a caseload of children subject to Child Protection Plans and care proceedings, completing high-quality assessments, reports, and care plans. The role involves close partnership working with legal representatives, guardians, and multi-agency professionals to ensure timely, child-focused outcomes.
With hybrid working (3 days in the office and 2 from home), this post offers both flexibility and strong team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex Child Protection and Court cases within statutory timescales.
- Undertake Section 17 and Section 47 assessments and produce clear, evidence-based reports.
- Develop and implement Child in Need and Child Protection Plans.
- Prepare statements and care plans for court proceedings.
- Work closely with legal teams, CAFCASS, and partner agencies.
- Maintain accurate case records using Mosaic, Brent’s case management system.
- Engage in reflective supervision and contribute to continuous service development.
Practice Model & System Used
Brent uses the Signs of Safety practice model — a strengths-based, relationship-focused framework that emphasises working collaboratively with families to identify solutions and build resilience. This approach ensures that the child’s voice is central in all decision-making and supports consistent, high-quality practice across the borough.
All case recording is completed using Mosaic, enabling effective communication and multi-agency coordination.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
- Experience within Child Protection / Court / Safeguarding services.
- Strong assessment, planning, and court report-writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, and professionals under pressure.
- Proficiency with case management systems (Mosaic experience desirable).
