Social Worker – Child Protection Team

About the Role

Brent Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Child Protection Team on a locum basis. The service is committed to safeguarding children and supporting families to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments.

You’ll be responsible for managing a varied caseload, completing assessments, developing child protection and child-in-need plans, and working closely with families to reduce risk and improve outcomes. The role offers a supportive team environment, with regular reflective supervision and a strong focus on professional development.

With hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 from home), you’ll enjoy the balance of flexibility and in-person collaboration with your team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Section 47 enquiries, assessments, and child protection investigations.
  • Develop and implement effective child protection and child-in-need plans.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children and families to promote positive change.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and other partner agencies.
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records using Mosaic (Brent’s case management system).
  • Participate in reflective supervision and contribute to a positive team culture.

Practice Model & System Used

Brent Council uses a Signs of Safety practice model — a strengths-based and solution-focused framework that encourages meaningful partnership with families, helping them identify and build on their own resources to keep children safe.

All case recording and management are completed on Mosaic, ensuring efficient information sharing and integrated multi-agency working.


Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Proven experience within Child Protection / Safeguarding services.
  • Strong assessment, planning, and risk management skills.
  • Ability to engage families effectively and work collaboratively across agencies.
  • Confidence using electronic case management systems (Mosaic experience desirable).
