About the Role

The London Borough of Brent is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join its Court Team on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in progressing care proceedings, ensuring that children and families receive timely, high-quality support and intervention.

You’ll manage complex cases within the court process, prepare detailed reports and statements, and work closely with legal teams, guardians, and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children. The role provides strong support from management and colleagues, reflective supervision, and access to excellent resources.

With hybrid working (3 days in the office and 2 from home), you’ll enjoy both flexibility and the benefits of collaborative teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children subject to court proceedings.
  • Complete high-quality assessments and care plans in line with statutory requirements.
  • Prepare court statements, reports, and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Work closely with legal representatives, guardians, and other professionals.
  • Attend court hearings and represent the local authority as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using Mosaic, Brent’s case management system.
  • Engage in reflective supervision and contribute to the continuous improvement of practice.

Brent Council operates a Signs of Safety practice model — a strengths-based and relationship-focused framework designed to empower families, build resilience, and ensure children are at the heart of all decisions. The model supports clear, consistent, and collaborative work with families and professionals.

All case management is completed on Mosaic, allowing for efficient recording and effective multi-agency communication.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Experience within Court / Child Protection / Safeguarding teams.
  • Strong knowledge of court processes and care proceedings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using case management systems (Mosaic experience desirable).
