We are currently recruiting for an experienced Social Worker to join the Assessment Team at Croydon Council, offering a strong £38 per hour pay rate.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a frontline practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced front-door service, where timely decision-making, strong analysis, and impactful direct work with families are at the heart of practice.

About the Service

Croydon’s Family Assessment Service is a dynamic front-line team responsible for completing Child and Family Assessments, Section 47 enquiries, safety planning, and short-term intervention work. The service operates a hybrid model with 3 days per week in the office, giving practitioners the balance of team collaboration and home-based flexibility.

The authority places a strong emphasis on systemic and strengths-based practice, encouraging social workers to work alongside families to understand risks, identify support networks, and create sustainable safety plans that lead to better long-term outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Child and Family Assessments within statutory timescales
• Undertake Section 47 investigations and safeguarding enquiries
• Carry out direct work with children and families at the point of referral
• Develop robust safety plans and recommend the most appropriate pathway
• Progress cases to CIN, Child Protection, or longer-term services where required
• Work closely with schools, police, health, and partner agencies
• Produce high-quality recording, assessments, and risk analysis

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
• Experience within Assessment, Duty, MASH, or Safeguarding teams
• Strong threshold decision-making and analytical skills
• Ability to manage fast-paced, short-term intervention work
• Confident completing S47s, emergency planning, and direct family work
• Comfortable with 3 days per week office presence
