Social Worker | Families First / UASC | Trafford Council | £35 per hour
Trafford Council is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join its Families First / UASC service on a locum basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children, young people and families in a service focused on early support, safeguarding and positive long-term outcomes, including dedicated work with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
This role would suit a Social Worker with experience in Children in Need, safeguarding, contextual work, or supporting UASC and cared for young people within statutory children’s services.
Role Overview
As a Social Worker within the Families First / UASC service, you will work directly with children, young people and families who require targeted support and intervention. You will complete assessments, develop outcome-focused plans, manage safeguarding concerns and support young people, including UASC, through pathway planning, stability and access to the right services.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of children, young people and families requiring support and intervention
- Complete assessments and plans in line with statutory guidance and service expectations
- Undertake direct work with children and young people, ensuring their voice is central to planning
- Support unaccompanied asylum-seeking children with care planning, pathway planning and access to services
- Assess risk and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
- Work closely with education, health, housing, immigration and other partner agencies
- Maintain accurate case recording and deliver high-quality reports and assessments
- Contribute to positive outcomes through child-focused and strengths-based practice

Requirements
- Social Work England registration
- Qualified Social Worker with statutory children’s services experience
- Experience working with children and families in frontline services
- Ideally previous experience with UASC, cared for children, leaving care or complex adolescent work
- Strong assessment, planning and risk management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-agency setting
- Confident written and verbal communication skills
