Are you a skilled and compassionate Social Worker with a strong background in working with vulnerable young people? Birmingham’s local authority is seeking a dedicated professional to join our Homeless Intervention Team, focusing on supporting young people aged 16-17 who are at risk of homelessness or already homeless.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting Section 17 Assessments and Child in Need (CIN) plans to offer support to young people.
- Providing Section 17 and Section 20 accommodation to those in need, ensuring all statutory requirements are met.
- Working closely with families to resolve conflicts and reunite young people with their families where possible.
- Managing cases where safeguarding concerns arise, conducting strategy discussions and Section 47 investigations when required.
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to support young people and improve their housing and life outcomes.
- Ensuring all work is compliant with relevant legislation, including the Southwark Judgement and Homelessness Reduction Act.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience as a Social Worker.
- Proven experience completing Section 17 assessments, holding CIN plan, and managing Section 20 processes (including reviews, PEPs, and pathway planning).s
- Strong background in working with families to prevent breakdowns and support reunification.
- In-depth understanding of the Southwark Judgement and the Homelessness Reduction Act.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and case management skills.
