Sheldon Phillips are working with Bolton Council to recruit a Social Worker to join their Children’s Safeguarding Team on a locum basis. This is a brilliant opportunity to work in a supportive and proactive local authority with a strong focus on stability, manageable caseloads, and high-quality multi-agency working.

The team works with children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection and Court proceedings, and is looking for a practitioner with confidence, commitment, and experience in child-centred safeguarding practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of children subject to Child Protection, CIN and PLO/court proceedings

  • Undertake robust Child and Family Assessments and risk analysis

  • Complete reports for Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Reviews, and court hearings

  • Develop and review care plans in collaboration with children, families, and professionals

  • Work closely with health, education, police and legal teams to ensure joined-up practice

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records

  • Attend regular supervision and participate in team meetings and case discussions

  • Maintain focus on child safety, permanence, and family-led solutions

Requirements:

  • Social Work England (SWE) Registration

  • A recognised Social Work qualification

  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualified experience in frontline children's services

  • Strong safeguarding, risk assessment, and planning skills

  • Confident working within statutory frameworks and court processes

  • Flexible and proactive approach
