Social Worker - Safeguarding

Position: Social Worker
Team: Family Safeguarding Service
Contract: Locum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £38 per hour
Location: WN1 1NJ
Working Pattern: Hybrid (typically 2–3 days in the office)


Sheldon Phillips are working with Wigan Council to recruit a Social Worker to join their Family Safeguarding Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a stable and supportive service that places relationship-based practice at the heart of everything they do.

The Family Safeguarding Service is made up of seven teams, each led by an experienced Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner, and Senior Social Worker who provide strong supervision and professional development support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with families under Child in Need, Child Protection, PLO, and Care Proceedings

  • Undertake high-quality assessments to identify risk, need, and protective factors

  • Develop and implement effective care and safety plans in collaboration with families

  • Prepare and present clear, analytical reports for court and child protection meetings

  • Work in partnership with families and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and reflective case recordings

  • Participate in supervision and team discussions to ensure best practice


Requirements:

  • SWE Registration

  • Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW)

  • Post-qualified experience within safeguarding or child protection

  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-based practice skills

  • Experience managing complex cases and producing quality reports

  • Ability to work proactively and creatively with families and professionals
