Social Worker – Family Safeguarding | Cambridge County Council | £39ph
Sheldon Phillips are working in partnership with a local authority to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Family Safeguarding Service based at Fawcett House in Trumpington. This is a hybrid role offering a mix of office-based and remote working, with a strong focus on child protection, children in need, and looked after children work within a multi-disciplinary safeguarding model.
Role Overview
This is a dynamic and fast-paced safeguarding role where you will hold a varied caseload of CIN, CP, and CIC cases, including some cases within PLO and care proceedings. You will be responsible for ensuring robust assessments, effective planning, and timely interventions to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake statutory visits for CIN, CP, and CIC cases
- Chair CIN meetings and Core Group meetings
- Hold and manage a complex caseload including CIN, CP, CIC, PLO, and S31 Care Proceedings cases
- Complete high-quality court reports, parenting assessments, and risk assessments
- Attend court hearings with support from Senior Practitioners or Team Managers
- Participate in the duty rota, responding to urgent safeguarding concerns
- Attend Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPC) and Review Child Protection Conferences (RCPC)
- Complete detailed conference reports and contribute to multi-agency planning
- Assess and manage risk effectively, ensuring safeguarding thresholds are met
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary Family Safeguarding model

Requirements
- Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW)
- Registration with Social Work England
- Significant post-qualified experience within Children’s Services
- Experience across CIN, CP, and CIC work
- Confidence in court work, assessments, and risk management
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and frameworks
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency environment
- Excellent communication, organisation, and analytical skills
