Join Swindon’s Family Safeguarding Service
Swindon Borough Council is looking for a passionate and experienced Social Worker to join its innovative Family Safeguarding Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a progressive local authority that is committed to keeping families together safely through intensive, strengths-based, multi-disciplinary intervention.
The service works within the nationally recognised Family Safeguarding Model, combining relationship-based social work with specialist adult practitioners in domestic abuse, mental health, and substance misuse. This joined-up approach enables practitioners to address risk holistically while creating sustainable safety within the family network.

The Role
As a Social Worker within the Family Safeguarding Team, you will work with children and families where there are safeguarding concerns, focusing on reducing risk and creating sustainable change. You will manage Child in Need, Child Protection, pre-proceedings, and court work where necessary, while working closely with adult specialist practitioners to support the whole family.
You will undertake purposeful direct work, robust risk assessments, and clear planning to ensure children remain safe within their family networks wherever possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Child in Need, Child Protection, and court/pre-proceedings cases
- Undertake robust risk assessments, safety planning, and direct work
- Work within the Family Safeguarding Model, alongside domestic abuse, mental health, and substance misuse specialists
- Build strong relationships with families to create sustainable change
- Lead on Child Protection Conferences, core groups, and legal planning meetings
- Undertake direct work with children to ensure their voice is central to planning
- Progress permanence planning where children cannot remain safely at home
- Work closely with schools, health, police, and partner agencies
- Maintain accurate and analytical case recording within statutory timescales
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
- Experience within Safeguarding, Child Protection, or Family Support services
- Strong knowledge of UK safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance
- Experience in court work, pre-proceedings, and risk management
- Ability to build effective relationships with families and professionals
- Strong assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills
- Passion for restorative and strengths-based family work
