Social Worker – Family Safeguarding Service

Swindon | Locum | £42 per hour + £100 weekly travel/accommodation allowance | 3 Days Office-Based

Swindon Borough Council is seeking experienced Social Workers to join their Family Safeguarding Service. The service operates within a pod model, providing strong management oversight and collaborative support. Each pod consists of 5 Social Workers and 1 Manager, ensuring effective supervision and shared learning.

This is a frontline safeguarding role working across Child in Need, Child Protection, and court proceedings within a strengths-based Family Safeguarding model.

In this role, you will:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, including parenting assessments
  • Develop outcome-focused care plans with children and families
  • Manage care proceedings within both private and public law
  • Work within court timescales to achieve permanency plans, including adoption
  • Analyse and evidence risk, recording clear professional analysis of interventions
  • Work collaboratively with adult practitioners within the Family Safeguarding model
  • Progress Child in Need plans to improve long-term outcomes

What You’ll Need:

  • Social Work England Registration
  • Social Work Qualification
  • Minimum 3 years’ PQE within a permanent statutory setting
  • Strong experience in Family Safeguarding, CIN, CP, and court work
  • Ability to undertake parenting assessments and permanency planning
  • Confident risk analysis and high-quality recording skills
  • Must be a car driver
  • Ability to attend the office 3 days per week
  • Must live more than 50 miles from Swindon to qualify for travel allowance
  • Condensed working patterns cannot be accommodated
