Rate: Up to £42 per hour
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary / Interim (37 hours per week)

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a dedicated Social Worker to complete initial assessments and provide early intervention for children and families. This short-term role offers the opportunity to work within an effective and collaborative safeguarding team, committed to delivering positive outcomes for children.
The Role
As a Social Worker in the Safeguarding & Assessment Team, you will:

Undertake timely and proportionate initial assessments of children and families.

Identify needs, risks, and strengths to inform next steps in safeguarding or early help planning.

Provide short-term interventions to support families and reduce risks at the earliest opportunity.

Work closely with children, parents, and partner agencies to ensure coordinated responses.

Maintain clear, accurate records and contribute to effective decision making.

Participate fully in team meetings, supervision, and reflective discussions.
About You
We are seeking someone who:

Is a qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.

Has experience in safeguarding, assessments, and early intervention work.

Communicates clearly and works positively with children, families, and professionals.

Is solution-focused, resilient, and committed to achieving the best outcomes.

Hours: 37 per week, over 5 days.

Office-based requirement: 4 days per week at Civic Offices, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth.
