About the Role
The London Borough of Sutton is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join our dedicated Court Team. As a senior social worker in this team, you will focus exclusively on cases within care proceedings, managing them from the initial hearing through to the final stages and beyond, including adoption where necessary. You will be supported by a manageable caseload, recognizing the intensive demands of court work, and will have opportunities to further develop your skills in court proceedings, viability assessments, and parenting assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage cases in court proceedings from initial hearing to final decision, including adoption as required.

  • Prepare high-quality court reports, provide expert evidence in court, and attend hearings as needed.

  • Conduct viability and parenting assessments and prepare detailed court documentation.

  • Work directly with looked-after children and children on Child Protection (CP) plans, including those placed with parents, other family members, or in care.

  • Visit children and fulfill in-person duties on a rotational basis (approx. once every two weeks) and attend face-to-face meetings as required.

About You

We are seeking a Social Worker with a strong interest and experience in court work, who enjoys the challenges of case management within court proceedings. Key requirements include:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Social Work and active registration with Social Work England.

  • Experience: Significant experience managing cases for looked-after children and children on CP plans; direct experience in court work, including report writing and giving evidence.

  • Skills: Proficient in writing court reports, conducting viability and parenting assessments, and familiar with care proceedings.

  • Attributes: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
