Sheldon Phillips is recruiting for a Team Manager to join the Assessment Team at Croydon Borough Council. This is a locum position offering hybrid working and an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to oversee the management and development of a dynamic social work team.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of social workers within the Assessment Team, ensuring high-quality practice and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Oversee the assessment process, ensuring that referrals and assessments (including Section 47 and Section 17) are carried out effectively and in a timely manner.
- Provide supervision, guidance, and support to social workers, including managing caseloads, performance, and professional development.
- Ensure the team operates in line with Croydon’s policies and the Children Act 1989, focusing on best practices in safeguarding and child protection.
- Contribute to the recruitment, retention, and development of team members, fostering a positive and supportive working environment.
- Manage case allocation, ensuring that the team is working efficiently and in line with priorities and deadlines.
- Take a lead role in multi-agency meetings, ensuring effective collaboration with partners across health, education, and other services.
- Review and sign off assessments, reports, and care plans, ensuring quality and compliance with legal and local authority standards.
- Drive service improvements within the team, ensuring continuous development and high standards of service delivery.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
- Significant experience in managing teams within an Assessment Team in a statutory setting.
- Strong knowledge of child protection procedures, safeguarding practices, and statutory assessment frameworks (e.g., Section 47, Section 17).
- Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and support team members with casework and professional development.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in supervision, team management, and performance reviews.
- Ability to work strategically, making decisions that impact team efficiency and service delivery.
