Salary: £49,764 – £52,805 per annum

Working Pattern: Hybrid – minimum of 3 days in the office including duty rota

Sheldon Phillips are proud to be working with Oldham Council as they seek an experienced Team Manager to join their Children in Care Service on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. This is a great opportunity to join a well-established and supportive team managing one of four social work teams within the service, each made up of five Social Workers and an Advanced Practitioner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff Management
-
Allocate work and monitor performance across the team
-
Conduct supervision, appraisals and support professional development
-
Manage recruitment, inductions, sickness, and HR-related processes

Lead and embed change across the team in line with service improvements
Budget Management
-
Monitor and account for budget spend
-
Approve care and support plans within agreed thresholds
-
Ensure accurate and timely data input across relevant systems
Service Delivery
-
Oversee needs-led assessments and care planning for children and young people in care aged 0–18

Provide specialist advice and guidance to Social Workers, especially in crisis and complex cases

Quality assure practice, chair meetings and contribute to audit preparation

Lead partnership working and interagency collaboration

Act as the Council’s representative in professional forums and court proceedings as required
Service Improvement

Contribute to strategic planning and service development

Gather and report on unmet needs and service gaps

Promote feedback from children, young people and families to shape service delivery

Support Quality Assurance frameworks and performance improvement initiatives
Requirements:
-
Social Work England registration
-
Qualified Social Worker with substantial post-qualified experience
-
Management experience in a children’s social care setting
-
Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience working with children in care
-
Skilled in supervision, performance management, and multi-agency working

Enhanced DBS and ability to travel – Essential Car User
