West Berkshire Council is recruiting a dedicated and child-focused Social Worker to join its Assessment Service on a permanent basis. Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake statutory assessments under Section 17 and Section 47
  • Manage cases from referral through to initial decision-making and planning
  • Complete high-quality assessments, reports, and care planning within statutory timescales
  • Work directly with children, young people, and families to identify risks and strengths
  • Participate in child protection enquiries, strategy meetings, and multi-agency working
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recording in line with statutory and council standards

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration (or eligible to register)
  • Experience within Assessment, Duty & Assessment, or Front Door services
  • Strong assessment, risk analysis, and decision-making skills
  • Sound knowledge of child protection legislation, thresholds, and statutory guidance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high practice standards
