West Berkshire Council is recruiting a dedicated and child-focused Social Worker to join its Assessment Service on a permanent basis. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake statutory assessments under Section 17 and Section 47
- Manage cases from referral through to initial decision-making and planning
- Complete high-quality assessments, reports, and care planning within statutory timescales
- Work directly with children, young people, and families to identify risks and strengths
- Participate in child protection enquiries, strategy meetings, and multi-agency working
- Maintain accurate and timely case recording in line with statutory and council standards
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration (or eligible to register)
- Experience within Assessment, Duty & Assessment, or Front Door services
- Strong assessment, risk analysis, and decision-making skills
- Sound knowledge of child protection legislation, thresholds, and statutory guidance
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high practice standards
